VA St. Louis Health Care System Notifying Veterans
Whose Personal Information May Have Been Compromised -Feb 24, 2017
VA St. Louis Health Care System (VASTLHCS) takes the privacy of our patients very seriously. Although there is a very low risk to patients, we want to let the public know about the release of limited patient information. A former VA employee provided documents containing Protected Health Information (PHI) to an employee not involved in the medical care of these Veterans. VA has terminated this employee for cause. Upon our discovery, VASTLHCS contacted VA’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) to aid in the investigation of this incident. As a result, VASTLHCS is sending letters to each of the 724 Veterans identified in the documents, notifying them of the potential disclosure of their information.
“Any time a Veteran’s personal information may be compromised, we take the matter very seriously,” said Keith Repko, the VASTLHCS Director. “We are reaching out to each Veteran who may have been impacted.”
The VA St. Louis Health Care System is committed to protecting the privacy of our Veterans. OIG is conducting an ongoing investigation surrounding this unauthorized disclosure and we are taking steps to mitigate future incidents of Protected Health Information being disclosed without legal authority.
Veterans who have questions or concerns about whether their personal information may have been involved can call a special hotline at 1-800-228-5459 extension 50998 between the hours of 7:30a – 4pm CST, Monday - Friday. We will have specially-trained staff ready to answer your questions when you call. Media questions are to be directed to the Office of Public Affairs, 314-289-6379.

Historical Context: VA St. Louis Health Care System - Jefferson Barracks Division Major Contruction Project
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) commissioned the preparation of this historic context in accordance with a July 2010 Memorandum of Agreement among the VA, the Missouri State Historic Preservation Officer, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. The agreement addresses construction and demolition of buildings at the St. Louis VA Medical Center-Jefferson Barracks Division (VAMC-JB), a site which is an important off-shoot of the storied Jefferson Barracks U.S. Army post (1826-1946) and likewise neighbor to the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. The MOA also formalized the determination that the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Jefferson Barracks historic district, is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). This historic context study refines and details the basis for that determination. You may review the two documents prepared for this study by using the links provided below.
