Situation Update

VA St. Louis Health Care System is proactively working to ensure we are ready to respond to COVID-19 disease.  The preparation includes the activation of our local Emergency Management Coordination Center to implement an aggressive and collaborative public health response to protect and care for Veterans.

For the safety of patients, visitors and staff, the VA St. Louis Health Care System updated its visitation policy for all of its heath care facilities to help to combat the spread of the Coronavirus. Effective at 6:00 AM CST, March 18, 2020, we expanded the “No Visitor” policy to include the John Cochran VA Campus, the Jefferson Barracks VA Campus, all of its community-based VA clinics and the Hope Recovery Center. The “No Visitors” policy will remain in effect until further notice. Visitors, with the exception of the veterans caregiver, are prohibited from entering the medical center or clinics unless it is necessary for providing medical care or visiting under compassionate care circumstances, such as grave illness or imminent death of a family member under care in the facility.

All Veterans, caregivers and visitors (meeting the above criteria) entering the campus will be pre-screened for signs of respiratory illness and temperature, prior to entry. Per CDC guidance and VA protocols, individuals known to be at risk for a COVID-19 infection are immediately isolated to prevent potential spread to others. Please allow extra time for the screening process.

Veterans who have traveled out of the country or to any of the domestic areas of high spread of the virus, in the last two weeks and have symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath, please call your provider and consider using VA’s telehealth and virtual care options.

Employees who have traveled outside of a 100 mile radius of our health care system in the last two weeks should contact Occupational Health at 314-652-4100 extension 5-4393 prior to their return to work.

VHA’s Emergency Management Coordination Team is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We will provide updates to our Veteran community as we receive more information.
