Volunteer Assignments

Below lists some of the ways you can volunteer at the VA. However, if you have special skills to offer, please contact us so we can discuss how to best use your talents to help our patients.

Patient Escort Volunteers 
Accompany patients to and from the ward and clinic areas for scheduled appointments, transport medical records, lab specimens, or run errands.
Information Desk Volunteer 
Assist with the admission process, answer phones, and direct visitors and patients.
Volunteer Drivers 
Drive patients to and from the medical center for appointments. We accept drivers from eastern Missouri and western Illinois.
Caregiver Support Volunteer Visit a veteran and his primary caregiver one a week for 2-4 hours in their home providing the caregiver a much needed break from caring for the veteran.
Volunteer Office Assistant 
Help different medical or administrative offices in the medical center. Duties include filing, answering phones, and greeting and directing patients.
Hospitality Beverage Cart 
Deliver beverages to outpatient clinics and waiting areas.
Amenity Relief Volunteer 
Assist and support nursing staff on inpatient units by visiting patients and providing amenities and special attention to patients as needed and helping patients with personal tasks.
Magazine/Book Cart
Sort donated magazines, books, or arts & crafts taking the cart to patients' rooms and designated waiting areas.
Recreation Service Volunteer
Assist staff professional with registration of patients for recreation therapy.
